In China and Hong Kong colour is the biggest influence in fashion and each different season is represented by a particular one. Spring is green, white means it’s autumn, winter is seen as black and in the summer, red is the colour that symbolises sunshine for most of the population.
This tradition influences the top Hong Kong fashion designers like Vivienne Tam and her latest collection is very strong and typical Chinese in plain but detailed dresses.
Women in the country love to wear designer labels and often look to Paris and Milan for their style aspirations. Logos are very high profile and seen as a big fashion statement.
Single shouldered dresses are very on trend, depending on the fabric they can be perfect for evening wear or crisp and cool for the daytime. Harem pants have filtered down from the cat walk and create a very soft silhouette. Jumpsuits aren’t going anywhere just yet with even more styles being introduced to the high street.
The monochrome look is set to stay which works well in Hong Kong because lots of people love wearing it. Floral’s are a big feature at the moment, which is perfect for a fresh young look, mainly dresses but sometimes skirts and even the occasional pair of trousers. Another strong colour fashion is bright and bold, with plenty of yellows and oranges to brighten the streets and malls.
Other trends require a brave approach notably the futuristic look which will likely be worn at the younger end of the age scale. Space age is difficult to pull off but can look very sharp which might just widen its appeal. Following on from last years gladiator sandals is the Grecian style often combined with the asymmetrical dress, very feminine and quite flattering for all figure shapes.
As always in fashion there is something for everyone and it’s just a case of picking what is best for you and making it your own.
