Seoul fashion Week for Men

Last month Seoul was very much alive with fashion fever as it held its bi-annual fashion week where 43 local designers launched their collections for next years spring and summer seasons. The main difference of the ‘Seoul fashion week’ to other fashion weeks around the world is that it focuses mainly on male fashion. The event has received a fair whack of criticism from the world fashion industry, most peoples complaints have been that it was quite dull while the Korean herald turned on its own country men saying the events were unorganised and showed a lacked professionalism.

Wooyoungmi seemed to have gone for a mad hatter theme with her collection, I actually quite like the top hat that many of the models sported during this parade, it is the clothes that I am not fully sold on. WooYoungmi clearly wanted heads covered as when there were no top hats in sight the pieces seemed to be accompanies by hoods – of various shapes and sizes and some of which looked straight up weird. The collection seemed contain a lot of leather and had a very effeminate feel, it was brave to try to introduce a sweater dress for men but I have a feeling its one trend that is not going to take off.

Tae Yong Ko also got the ‘hoods are in’ memo and decided to throw a few it to this collection he paired them with a interesting preppy style nerd . . . it was different but it did work, and I cant help but mention this too was not the most masculine collection.

Kang Dong Joon went for the preppy feel as well and yes again the nerdy element is present. The line manages to differentiate itself from Tae Yong Ko by keeping the collection that bit more masculine, it was the fist collection from the week that I have looked at that I didn’t have to stop at least once to think is that a man?

Last but certainly not least is Yoon Ki Suk from Lotoco. This collection managed to embody a little bit of all the collections that were already mentioned. There was leather, crazy hoods and the preppy nerd.

All in all you can see there were some strong themes running though the fashion week but the one that I think will take off the most, the one that is already being well received by the public is the unisex look. Anything androgynous looking will be in for the coming season and clearly Korean fashion is embracing this look.
