Michael Cinco is a man who embodies the classic rags-to-riches story. As a young boy growing up in the small town of Catbalogen Samar in The Philipinnes, Michael was mesmorised by Hollywood starlets such as Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly, and wished he could design for such international superstars. In true Hollywood fashion, Cinco’s dream came true and he is now a renowned designer for celebrities such as Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, and Dita Von Teese amongst others.
It was 15 years ago, when Michael decided to travel to the Middle East to pursue a career in fashion. In Dubai, his abundant creativity became popular with the fashion conscious divas of this area, and his works soon featured in Dubai Fashion Week and Swarovski Shows. Cinco won the People’s Choice Award at the 2010 Dubai Fasion Week and in 2011, he was awarded Breakthrough Designer at the WGSN Global Fashion Award in New York. Amongst these achievment is being the first ever Filipino designer to feature on hit US reality TV show America’s Next Top Model.
Cinco’s aim as a designer is to make a woman feel like a princess. Speaking to UMA, Cinco said “my job as a designer is to make a woman feel beautiful, make a woman feel grand, and to make her look a princess”. In doing so, Cinco takes inspirations from haute coutour greats such as Saab and Dior, but adds a helping of his own signature blend of light fabrics and studded crystals. Since 2003, Cinco has run his own couture house, Michael Cinco Haute Couture, and operates on his own brand of intricate dresses and gowns, fulfilling his dream of creating more and more collections for Hollywood starlets.
