Hong Kong Fashion
As you can probably gather, fashion in Hong Kong is not dissimilar to what Chinese fashion is like. Chinese and Hong Kong fashion is widely known to offer some of the most pretty and chic garments, with both highly regarded for their designs and quality the world over.Hong Kong is also known to have produced its fair share of fashion designers and many of them are credited with keeping all the charms and heritage of their upbringing in the area, and incorporating them into fashion pieces that have a modern twist. Betty Clemo was a Hong Kong based fashion designer who was active in the industry from the 1950s until the end of the 1990s and in a way helped to put focus on Hong Kong and what it could offer in terms of fashion and inspirational designs. After her death in 2005, however, her family continued her legacy and now operate her many boutique stores in London, New York, Macau and many duty free shops throughout China.John Rocha is another Hong Kong born fashion designer. Based in Ireland, he is perhaps more eccentric with his designs and experimentations with colours, fabrics and techniques, however, there is no denying that his distinctive style is extremely popular.Other Hong Kong designers include; Henry Lau, Chocheng and Vivienne Tam. Vivienne Tam is a designer based in New York City but grew up and plied her trade at university in Hong Kong. Her fashion brand is easily recognisable as it is mainly inspired by Chinese culture with a hint of modern interpretation, and is named after her. Her shops can also be spotted in most major cities around the world, especially where fashion is of high regard. Also a highly regarded and much-loved designer is Chocheng. The entrepreneur founded his company aptly named 'Chocheng' in New York and has since never looked back. Finally, Henry Lau is also a big name associated with Hong Kong fashion and has been in the industry for many years. Lau started out his designing portfolio whilst at a Hong Kong university and received his Bachelor of Arts in Fashion Design in 1995 before going on to participate and help with costume creation and image design for singers and celebrities at that time. As his name began to get bigger in the fashion industry, Lau joined a fashion house and created high end fashion garments for buyers in Japan and South East Asia - after this was a success, he then opened his own studio.
