Asian-American Designers Spotlight: Richard Chai Spring 2011 Collection NYFW

Richard Chai recently received the Best New Designer for Men’s Wear Award.  He is a Korean-American fashion designer  which featured a show stopping collection in the NYFW runway.   He is one of the hottest young designers  today, and he didn’t  disappoint the fashion fanatics who witnessed his collection.

He kicked off with his fascinating designs in shades of blue and khaki.  Richard’s designs showed his ‘Love’  line, which featured layered materials,  comfort, soft and simple color palettes.   His designs continue to stand out because he knows how to take such risks of choosing the boring and plain colors.  He knows how to pull off layering, even if it’s hard to do especially in this collection.   His clothes are evidence of his fashion statement, which is “Bold and Clear”.  He’s paving the way for the new era of soft minimalism.

He is referred to as one of the new influences on modern designs with other Asian designers Derek Lam, Peter Som and more they create a new mix of clothes that touches both Asian and other influences in their designs.  Richard makes clothes with different fabrics and add touches of origami folds and seams earning him the respected title of being one of the best fashion designers.

Richard Chai is a native of New York and Korean descent.  He began his fashion career as an intern at the Geoffrey Beene while studying at the Parsons School of Design.  He once worked as a sketcher at Lanvin.  He worked as an assistant designer at Armani Exchange and DKNY.  Richard is a fashion designer with a lot of experiences in luxury items.  And he has a promising talent whom the world should watch out for.
